How to Fix a Squeaking Ceiling Fan

Wondering how to repair your old squeaking ceiling fan? While the squeaking sound can be terribly annoying for a peaceful night’s sleep, it could also be a sign of bigger problems brewing. It could indicate certain mechanical and functional issues or may be the indication of poor workmanship. In case your fan has aged over several years, it may be time to get it replaced rather than having it repaired. A Bajaj ceiling fan can be a great alternative to your old squeaky product. A Bajaj ceiling fan is not only a long lasting and appealing product; it comes under the brand name of Bajaj, which is among the major trusted electrical appliance brands in India. However,it always helps to know some DIY tips to take care of your summer life saver.

Tips to Diagnose and Eliminate the Problem

With these tips you can conveniently diagnose the root of the squeaking problem rather than calling an electrician.

• Locating the squeak: Stand atop a ladder or elevated platform and attempt to locate the sound. Look carefully at whether the sound is coming from within the motor casing or is it being caused by something rubbing on the fan blades. A motor problem may require the help of a professional but in case something is rubbing on the fan blade, apply a shot of lubricant or canned air, such as WD-40, to the area that is squeaking. This will remove any debris causing the squeak, resolving the issue.

• Thorough cleaning:
If you do not mange to locate the squeak and are unable to resolve the problem, a complete cleaning of the fan blades may do the trick. Dust and dirt that enter the moving components of the fan can rub together causing the squeak. Wipe the blades down with a damp cloth and remove grime and dust. Open the motor compartment and spray canned air inside or use a vacuum cleaner to suck up all the accumulated dust. A feather duster may also come in handy to remove anyvisible dust and may take care of the squeaking noise.

• Tighten all screws: It may be possible that due to the fan’s rotating motion, a few screwsmay have been forced loose. Get your screw driver and make sure to tighten all screws. Loose screws may also be the cause of the squeaking noise. Also, in case there is an oil hole above the motor, add up to six drops of light machine oil to lubricate the motor and eradicate the squeak.

In case none of these tips seem to work, it may be time for you to get professional help. You could even consider getting a new and reliable product, such as a Bajaj ceiling fan.
